Tekken is something millennials all
across the globe are familiar with, since it was launched in 1994 as an arcade
video game. Teenagers and young adults quickly took a liking to the Japanese
franchise of fighting games, it was a huge hit and even today Tekken
tournaments are famous worldwide. The series has 10 installments till date with
the latest one being Tekken 7 which
was launched in 2015.
Along with the video games, the Namco
developers have also entered into the movie field with two feature films with Tekken in 2009 and a prequel in 2014 Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge. Two anime movies
were also made with the first being Tekken:
The Motion Picture released in 1998 and Tekken:
Blood Vengeance which was released in 2011. This animated movie followed
the original storyline of the Mishima Bloodline with 3 generations fighting
among each other which includes Heihachi Mishima, his son Kazuya Mishima and
Jin Kazama who’s the grandson of Heihachi and Kazuya’s only son. Jin and Kazuya
both had the Devil Gene which turns them into monstrous beings, Kazuya hates
his father as he killed his mother Kazumi. While Jin hates Kazuya for passing
on the devil gene onto him so this has always been a reason of hate and fight
among the Mishima clan.
While the main reason for Tekken’s
popularity have been the video games, Netflix has taken it up a notch by
developing Tekken: Bloodline. A first of its kind, this web series will be
produced and streamed exclusively on Netflix and will go back to the origins of
the Iron Fist Tournament saga. The trailer was released back in March,
featuring a young Jin Kazama as the protagonist as he’s been for the whole
Tekken franchise. Along with Jin the new series will feature other legendary
characters like Heihachi, King, Leroy, Paul Phoenix and much more, fans have
really appreciated the graphics and production on the trailer. With the
advanced technology of modern age, this Netflix anime series is set to be a
huge hit as the Tekken fanbase is spread across the globe and it will be a
nostalgic experience specially for the 1990’s generation. While there’s no
release date been given as of now, it is expected to be released later this
year.
