Top 5 classic thrillers you need to watch over the weekend

5. The Green Mile (1999)

Imagine Tom Hanks starring in a magical drama movie, an actor famous for blockbusters like Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Captain Phillips, The Da Vinci Code to name a few. The Green Mile was a different genre for him, although the movie did really well and was considered a huge hit, it isn’t as popular with the younger audience.

The plot revolves around a prisoner, convicted for murdering two little girls who possesses magical powers and abilities. It’s a 3 hour long movie but it keeps you interested throughout due to the acting performances of Michael Clarke Duncan and Hanks who both won awards, also the pace at which the movie progresses does not let the viewer get bored. This movies ranks at no.5 of the list, if you’re interested in a good story based thriller, this is the pick for you.

4. The Shining (1980)

This classic horror thriller is directed by the late director Stanley Kubrick who was famous for making dark films with mostly the horror and thriller genres. The movie is based on Stephen King’s novel which goes by the same name. Jack Nicholson delivers an impactful performance as the winter caretaker, whose life takes a dramatic turn when he takes his new job at a hotel. The horror element remains constant throughout the film along with the chills and thrills. Even though its a one-time watch, The Shining is sure to satisfy your thriller cravings.

3. Mystic River (2003)

This movie is a murder mystery, which leads to past events and their effects on the present. The cast is worth mentioning with actors like Sean Penn, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins both won Oscars for their roles as gang members.

Not revealing too much about the film but do keep an eye out for Is that my daughter scene, critics have said that particular scene is what earned Penn his Oscar. Amazing acting chops, gripping story and good direction make this movie a great choice for your weekend movie binge.

The 7 deadly sins displayed in the poster above are what set the basis of this film, this mass murder movie was one of the biggest hits of the year 1995. Its story revolves around a psychotic killer who kills his victims based on the seven sins and picks them out according to their deeds, lifestyle etc.

With a stellar cast of Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey and Gwyneth Paltrow, Se7en is a must watch for thrill seekers and movie lovers. The noir film did amazing business at the box office and has gained a cult status now. It keeps you engaged throughout which is a sign of a great movie, so do not miss out on this classic!

1.    Vanilla Sky (2001)

Vanilla Sky is a sci-fi/psychological thriller released in 2001, this movie has one of the most beautiful casting in Hollywood with Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz. Along with the mind bending story , the thriller manages to show a love story in the midst of all the psychological chaos. Tom Cruise co-produced the movie with Paula Wagner his long time production partner as both of them worked on films like the first 3 Mission: Impossible movies, The Others, Minory Report, The Last Samurai etc.

Unlike most thriller movies, this is not a one-time watch because you would need to watch it again in order to understand what really happened. So, this one is a must watch if you want an unforgettable movie experience!
